2014 SCW Directory

2014 SCW DirectoryThe SCW Directory for 2014 is now available to our members and staff coaches. Due to privacy issues, only members and coaches may ask for their copy by going to the office and asking Dot or Sheila for a copy. One copy per household please. The directory will not be available for downloading on the website. You may also ask our Membership Chairman, Kathy Snyder, for a copy of the Directory. As is common with any directory, it is usually out of date from the day it was printed. Please report any errors or updates to Kathy so that we may make those changes in the Club’s database for our next printing. Thank you!

Restoration Yoga at SCW

Dr. Stacie LarkinDr. Stacie Larkin, a native of Wilmington, Delaware, discovered the truth to the saying “when one door closes, another door opens” through yoga. Stacie loves to teach small group classes and private sessions. Her classes focus on using the breath to calm one’s nervous system and quiet the mind. Emphasis is also placed on the bio-mechanical principals of proper alignment and promoting awareness of postural habits that may be contributing to one’s pain and dysfunction. Hands-on assistance is used to guide students safely into and out of yoga postures. While respecting each individual’s strengths and limitations, Stacie knows how to appropriately challenge each person to get the most out of their yoga.

ddd.29755823a6-300Stacie is a long-time member of the American Physical Therapy Association, the Chief Delegate for the Delaware Physical Therapy Association, and a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Growing up, most of her time was spent at the Skating Club of Wilmington. She has experienced just about every aspect of the sport from singles, dance, pairs, synchronized skating, to even playing ice hockey in college at Boston University. Outside of yoga and physical therapy, Stacie loves to “just be” at her home in Hockessin with her husband Roger, and two wonderful daughters, Katie and Sara.

If you would like a private yoga lesson or to help Stacie put together a group yoga class at SCW, please contact Stacie Larkin at 302-530-6452 or slarkindpt@gmail.com and visit Stacie’s website at http://www.restorationyoga.com

Dr. Sandra F. Pritchard Mather

SCW Member, Sandie Mather, was in the news again on October 3rd for the commemoration of the newly renovated West Chester University Planetarium which is now named the Dr. Sandra F. Pritchard Mather Planetarium. If you see her ice dancing at our rink sometime, wave at her to acknowledge all her contributions to a better world. We’re lucky to have her as a member.

Camera-shy?

Hawk-looking-at-other-direc

One of our resident birds seen several times now is this hawk which seems to like the vantage point of this stop sign at Carruthers Lane and East Park Drive. This photo was taken with my iPhone out of the sunroof of my car. This bird of prey didn’t seem to be too concerned about me taking his picture because he was looking behind him and would not turn around. Maybe he was camera-shy!

You should also keep your eye out for a pair of eagles in the golf course.  We believe they are keeping a watchful eye on one of their young ones.  Sometimes the 2 adults like to sit on the guard rail as you turn onto Carruthers Lane.

Sandie Mather Receives Prestigious Theobald Award

In August, SCW member, Sandie Mather, received the prestigious Theobald Award in Breckenridge, Colorado, for preserving the historical heritage of Summit County, Colorado.  For the last three decades, Sandie has been a volunteer for the three historical societies in the county, leading hikes and walking tours, presenting programs, and conducting research.  She has written over a dozen books about the county including topics ranging from geology, saloons, transportation,  mining, and the women who lived in the county from 1859 until the turn of the 20th century.
